Strategic Alliance for Black Dance Meeting – September 17th 2016

 

We are excited to invite you to the next Strategic Alliance meeting that takes place on Saturday September 17th 2016, 10am-5.30pm, as part of  a one day symposium entitled ‘Dance, Diaspora and the role of the Archive’  in partnership with  the Society for Dance Research and RiMap (University of Bedfordshire) at: University of Bedfordshire: Bedford Campus, Polhill Avenue Bedford MK41 9EA.

This one day symposium will explore the concept of the dance archive with particular reference to dancers and dancing of diaspora communities with a focus on the importance of archiving for Black dance. We will be celebrating the brand new Black Dance Archive project where contributors discuss their experience of archiving plus lively discussion and debate with the next generation of artists. There will also be the usual networking opportunities and lunch provided by State of Emergency for Strategic Alliance guests.


Guest speakers include: Sheron Wray (JazzXchange), Carl Campbell (Dance Co7), Greta Mendez (Maas Movers), Alexandrina Hemsley,Jamila Johnson-Small and YassminFoster.

The ticketed event is FREE to all Strategic Alliance Members.
